  2. Yep.....prairie dogs

Out here in the southwest, prairie dogs still live in vast towns, sometimes having to be relocated to spacious reserves.  There was a prairie dog town that stretched for miles around the Albuquerque Zoo when zookeepers thought it was contained in a few hundred square yards.  There are also prairie dog towns under local grade schools resulting in twisted ankles and nips to curious fingers!

Extraterrestrials aren't animals!  They're correctly called  Winged Dracos or Mothmen or Pterodactoids.  They've networks of underground facilities extending some eight or more levels beneath the earth.  Our benevolent government interacts frequently with these unusual creatures.  So there's no need to be alarmed, citizens...
