What apology is the most helpful?

I need to know how to apolgise to someone i dont know very well and have only talked to through myspace.

I dont know how to mean it and obviously a simple 'sorry' isnt gonna do it.

The reason im apologising doesnt matter.

I would say you're sorry for whatever you did. Be sincere.

If you offended them, tell them that you are sorry that you offended them, that you didn't mean to and you hope they will forgive you.

or I'm sorry I didn't mean what I said, can you forgive me? After you apologize it is up to them. You did what was necessary.

In a jocular vein the old "how would you like to shove it up your jacksy"

usually does the trick.

I listened to this radio special like a year ago that talked about the five languages of apology, the five key aspects to a true apology:

1) "I'm sorry" - and mean it

2) "I did wrong" - admit fault

3) "It won't happen again" - learned your lesson

4) "What can I do to make it right?"

5) Asking for forgiveness

admitting that you are wrong is a good star and that it will never happen again...

Admit you were wrong, apologize for doing whatever it is you did, and ask to be sure you're still cool with the person. :] Chances are, they'll probably forgive you.

the best apology is when you offer to do anything for the person you have offended to make it up to them -  and then actually do it.

Say sorry without making excuses for yourself or trying to justify your actions.

Recognise the upset you have caused and empathise with their feelings.
