  1. The ability to help those recover from the unexpected.  A car crashes........I'm there to help.........a house burns down.....I'm there to give much needed money..........a life is lost.....we are able to take some of the financial uncertainty in their life, so they can focus on the family


  2. I did claims and it was very rewarding.  when a business is lost, unless it was intentional, the insured just wants to be back in business. I can do that for them.

    I like Commercial lines best... it's all business.

    Personal Lines - Homeowner, Auto..... that got to me.  People don't always understand that when their home burns down, I can give them the $5.48 for the roll of 36 film, but I can't replace the photos of their children or grandchildren, or their parents when they were first married in the early 1900's.  OH MY.  The chatchkies  that their kids made at school in the 50's it's gone.  And if they had an agent that wasn't paying attention and for some unknown reason didn't have replacement cost on the policy. I can't even give them enough money to replace their home. That happened During the Oakland Fires.  An older couple... their agent had retired, the agency had given his book of business to a younger agent. The younger agent was more concerned with beating the bushes for new business, so the Replacement Cost endorsement was never added.

    I got loaned to Underwriting for a while and agents would send in renewal requests that said "RENEW AS IS"  I wouldn't do it. I sent it back to the agent and said NO.  Nothing stays the same.  Did the insured have a big anniversary?  Did his wife get a really cool ring that needs to be scheduled?  Did they add a deck that would increase the value of the home?  a few years ago the property values of homes in California were 5 times what they should be.  How many agents adjusted the insured values accordingly??  Nothing stays the same from year to year.  And if it did, then get a signature from the insured.  It covers the agents butt as well as the Company's.

    I guess the most appealing part is knowing that most of the time you're doing something good.
