Especially around rue de Buci?

I mean those buildings which have shops on the ground floor and apartments above, not major landmarks. When were most of them built? And what label could be used to describe their style: Neo-Gothic, Romantic, or what?

I've been to the neighborhood, but have no idea how to properly describe it in terms of architecture.

  1. I am quite familar with this area which is in the sixth arrondissement.

There are two different styles being shown by the photos you refer to. The first picture is of a Haussmann building referring to the huge project of restructuring Paris that was undertaken by Baron Georges-Eugène Haussmann under the direction of Napoleon III in 1852. the Baron tore up huge sections of Paris to build the broad boulevards we see today and decreed a style and size limits for buildings that would constructed on these boulevards.

The other two photos (although I am not entirely certain about the first) seem to show the earlier style which had been popular from the medieval period of half timbered buildings. The third photo is of a building that I believe dates from about the early 18th century.

  2. Hi! :)

My boyfriend is an architecture major, and I asked him this for you. I showed him the pictures, and he said that they appear to be Baroque buildings, and were probably constructed in the 1700s.
