  6. 1988 Invasion Day (Otherwise known as Australia Day) was the largest demonstration by Indigenous people in the history of Australia.

    1992 Mabo decision brought down in the Supreme Court stating that when Europeans arrived it was not Terra Nullius but previously owned land and that land rights were therefore a legal requirement. If yo could prove continuous occupation of land since white settlement you could apply for Land Rights over that land.

    1996 John Howard elected Prime Minister. During his 11 1/2 year term he dragged us back to the dark ages in international politics and internal race relations. He opened a class divide which may never be breached and he interned thousands of refugees including babies and children in deserts in concentration camps.

    2000. Our current environment minister in his previous incarnation as a rock star actually made a great statement by wearing a sorry t-shirt to the opening ceremony of the Sydney olympics where his band performed. Nice to know he once had the courage of his convictions.

    2007. Austar;ia finally cae to its senses and kicked out the creepy little sports nut who had been embarrassing us in international forums for more than a decad. Unfortunately all we had to replace him was a Cartman look alike married to a multi millionaire. So much for working class heroes.

    Can't think of any more. It has been a dull place under the petty bourgeois tyranny of a demented cricket tragic and now an alumni of the di[plomatic services. Spare us. We could all die of boredom now.
