  1. Hi again,

The national flower is "flor de mariposa" (Butterfly Flower) and the national bird is "Tocororo" or Cuban Trogon.

The name "Cuba" comes from the Taíno language the exact meaning of which is unclear, but may be translated either "where fertile land is abundant" (cubao) or "great place" (coabana).

The Cuban culture is very diverse...the aboriginal Taíno and Ciboney peoples, the period of Spanish colonialism, the introduction of African slaves.

Spanish, French, Portuguese, Middle-Eastern, Asian, African are some of the different countries represented in Cuba.

    Cubans love baseball, volleyball, cricket.

Popular music is el són (which is the basis for the music styles)...salsa, mambo, rumba, cha-cha-cha...Reggaetón has a growing popularity there now as well.

Many famous music artists are Cuban such as Celia Cruz, Tito Puentes, Willy Chirino and many more.

Sugar, coffee, nickel, plantation/agriculture products are produced in and exported from Cuba.

Cuban food is Spanish and influenced with Caribbean spices and flavour.

The typical meal could consist of plantains, black beans and rice, ropa vieja (shredded beef), Cuban bread, pork with onions, and tropical fruits. Black beans and rice, referred to as Platillo Moros y Cristianos (or moros for short), and plantains are staples of the Cuban diet. Many of the meat dishes are cooked slowly with light sauces. Garlic, cumin, oregano and bay leaves are the dominant spices.
