  1. I go to souhegan high school, which has a completely different structure and philosophy than i've ever heard of. Hopefully these basic rules still apply to other schools.

    1. Do not suck up to seniors. They WILL see through you. Don't focus on the fact that they're older and more experienced and you won't be as intimidated by them.

    2. Confront people who do things you think they shouldn't. Even if it's not to you. But don't be aggressive or dramatic.

    3. Treat all teachers with respect. No matter how bogus or stupid they seem. You really can learn something from all of them, even if it's just how to endure bad teachers.

    4. Don't rely on lockers. Most of the time they're ancient, and the locks can be stolen or break. Just carry your binders or backpack around.

    5. Don't eat too much during school. School food sucks across the nation. Nothing is nutritious and anything you bring is over-processed and packaged. Just save your appetite for when you get home.

    6. Don't make fun of things just because everyone else does, or you think they would. In the long run, people will more respect that you're brave enough to say what you really think. Meaning, why not do band or rave about Shakespeare?

    7. Don't obsess about how you look. It makes it seem like you have nothing going for you but your physical appearance. Only those without smarts or personality can get away with caring so much about hair, clothes and makeup.

    8. Keep organized. Get into the habit of three hole punching everything and putting them into seperate binders for each class. As i'm sure your middle school teachers have told you, at the HS they have no sympathy if you lose papers. Your problem, not theirs.

    9. If you're boy/girl crazy, try not to be. It really does detract from schoolwork. Besides, girls/guys like the mysterious kids who no one knows who they like. Or what their type is.

    10. Enjoy it. I'm going to be a sophomore in september and I can't BELIEVE how fast the year went. Like even though you'll probably get picked on for being a freshman all the time, and it's hard to adjust to the workload (you actually have to study now!), it's supposedly the best four years of your life. And I don't think any one year is the best. Yeah, (most of us) can't drive or go to prom or get invited to drinking parties. But you have few real responsibilties (no SATs, no college applications..), so you can hold on to just being a kid!

  2. 1. Don't do drugs- it doesn't make you cool.

    2. Don't drink alcohol- you're not old enough yet.

    3. Don't have s*x- you're too irresponsible. It can lead to too many things you are not prepared for.

    4. Be yourself- don't try to impress others.

    5. Get involved in a lot of activities that interest you and meet as many people as you can- this will make you popular not drugs, alcohol, or s*x.

    6. Do well in school- the better you do now, the better college you will get into.

    7. Don't make fun of others. It doesn't make you cooler, no one likes someone who is mean.

    8. Be nice to your parents- they are just trying to protect you.

    9. If you ever have a problem, do not be afraid to tell an adult. If you don't want to tell your parents, talk to a guidance counselor. It can be confidential- that's what they are there for.

    10. Don't stress! Try to have as much fun as possible for the next 4 years! It will fly by faster than you think!
