  1. Watching television!

  2. Do you mean behaviours such as habits in adults or the behaviour of children?

    Adults:

-Speaking too fast: avoid this because the children will miss out on vocab, sentence structure and may not be able to follow the story or information you are giving to them!

-Not differentiating: children need to be seen as individuals if you try to teach all children with the same method then some may not be getting the support they need.

-writing in capitals: in society not everything is in capitals however many adults write childrens names in capitals on their work-the child will see this as normal and so may miss out on letter recognition and writing.

    Children:

-Fidgetting: if a child is constantly moving at story time they will miss out so try to avoid this behaviour by selecting stories that are appropraite for age, interesting and if possible requires child's help eg: repeated lines, actions/gestures, props/puppets. Also having adults sat on floor with children and near the fidgetters helps :)

-Writing wrong direction: sometimes children when they are learning to read and write will go right to left which is not how it is read in English text...so introducing children to left to right early helps them...adults should be role models and use hteir finger to trace words/sentences, and write infront of chidlren from left to right.

-Avoidance of small manipulation activities: children who do not learn to use their hands/fingers will have difficulties in holding pencils, turning pages correctly etc so they need to have opporutnities where they practice skills-by making it interesting children will particpaite without feeling forced eg:pushing small cars down ramp, peg and boards, finger rhymes.

Hope this helps-i asnwered the questions as if the class were 3-5 year olds as where I live that is preschool!
