  1. You wanted 3 examples, so here they are:

    (1) reduce your household's light energy usage by 90% less than CFL bulbs

    (2)  save $250 yearly with a $30 Mystery Tree Saving Device

    (3) run you car's front lights on 8 instead of 110 watts

These are three unusual, but effective, ideas from the Extreme Energy Eccentric's eGuide, that really reduce one's Carbon Footprint!

You might be thinking what the heck is a Mystery Tree-Saving Device? Check out this Youtube video clip, link below:

So, to answer your question, when bad news about the Climate Crisis gets you down, put these frugal-minded ideas into action!

Why? Because home lighting is responsible up to 20% of your total electricity cost.

NOTE: My answer does not involve changing lights to CFL bulbs. FYI, recent newspaper articles disclosed disposal problems with CFL bulbs. The problem with CFL bulbs is this: When one breaks, people should empty the room! CFL bulbs also cause skin problems, see URL.

  2. walk or bicycle instead of use cars not wasting fuels

use a candle instead of electricity

  3. We have replaced something each year with its energy star equivalent and as rates go up our bill still goes down. Telling this to others is one.  Walking more and recycling also.

  4. Reuse... everything from containers, to bags, to cars (sure your brand new corolla may get 0.5mpg better than my 1985 model, but it's doubtful, as the new corolla weighs almost twice as much, and the amount of energy that goes into building new cars and scrapping older ones is almost as high as the fuel it uses in a lifetime, for an economical car).

reduce buying the amount of stuff i don't need... no one needs 20 dollar DVD players, and no one needs more television sets than people in the house.

buy local produce. transportation of goods is another Huge waste of resources.

As for recycling... recycling actually takes more energy than making it from new. plastic trash may not be pretty, but it acts as a carbon "sink". with plastics you have two options, make it from crude oil, or make it from recycled material. if you make it from recycled material, saving the oil to burn in the car, your adding to the CO2 layer responsible for global warming. if you make new items, and leave the old ones buried, thats less CO2 into the environment (kind of new age oil and coal deposits.

  5. Conserve water, it's our most precious resource! ie., short showers like wet down , turn off water, soap then rinse. Travel by public transport if possible. Turn ur garden into a vegetable patch. grow fruit trees & get ur neighbours to do the same, then trade the excess. Walk instead of driving. Is that a start? If u want more email me.

  6. i would use solar heating to heat up water

    use a rian water tank

    turn off my comp

    OR

BECOME A HOMELESS BUM ON THE STREETS

  7. walk, car pool, & recycle

  8. take the bus, spoon with a partner, and eat organic.

  9. buying a more expensive car which saves more fuel...closing all the windows and doors while using a warmer(better wear  warm clothes instead)..and..covering all the spaces under the doors or between windows..

  10. shower for 10 minutes (max), put your thermostat to 25.5 centigrade and use electricity only when necessary.

  11. ride my go-ped at 150mpg- 10 miles to work and 8 miles to school and back.

use candles and playing cards for entertainment rather than flourescent lights and video games.

go to the local thrift store and buy a wind-up victrola and a collection of records rather than using CDs and large stereos.

  12. Reduce, reuse, recycle.

  13. stop buying junk we REALLY DONT NEED

    advertise just FLick off!

keep all things turned off when not in use

prentend you only have a certain amount of water like you own a well  use it wisley

    think of alternatives for everything.

  14. (1) Buy energy star rated appliances

    (2) Car pool

    (3) Turn your thermostat down in the winter and up in the summer a few degrees (3 or 4 degrees will make a big difference)

  15. i could reach over and unplug my power strip, my printer, and my phone, but it takes too much energy.

  16. -Ride or walk instead of driving. Hybrid vehicles are not more environmentally friendly - they use electricity from COAL.

-Be more considerate about your consumption and don't fall into the eco-consumerist mentality. The solution is less consumption, not more.

    - Reduce meat consumption.

  17. (1) Stop buying SUV's,  Trucks, and any 6 cylinder vehicles,

( 2 ) Start looking for Hybrid car's, if you can't afford it take the bus or just  use your Bike ( It's good for you health )

( 3 )  And if your destinations are just around the neighborhood, you can always do the old fashion way.... walk or jog!!!

  18. I can give you one example - i came across this on tv actually - a lot of us tend to leave our televisions, dvd players, computers on standby overnight  or all the time - you can cut your electricity consumption by at least 10% by switching off the mains when you are not using an appliance.
