  1. 1.  Failure to provide CO2 to the plant will shut down photosynthesis so growth will stop.

    2.  If CO2 levels are zero then the plant could actually lose weight.  This brings up the concept of the compensation point.  All plants have a characteristic level of CO2 wherein photosynthetic CO2 uptake is just balanced by respiratory CO2 loss. This atmospheric CO2 concentration is called the CO2 compensation point.  So, if you maintain the CO2 concentratioon below this level respiration will continue to break down carbohydrates and release the carbon as CO2 so the plant shrinks.

    3. The energy for uptake of nutrients from the soil is provided by carbohydrates supplied to the roots by the aerial parts of the plant.  If photosynthesis shuts down because CO2 is unavailable then the energy supply to the roots is cut off as well.  It is likely that the plant will become pale eventually due to pigment loss.
