  1. CBC's 50 Tracks - essential popular Canadian songs

    1. Four Strong Winds by Ian and Sylvia (1963)

    2. If I had $1000000 by the Barenaked Ladies (1992)

    3. Heart of Gold by Neil Young (1971)

    4. Northwest Passage by Stan Rogers (1981)

    5. American Woman by The Guess Who (1970)

What I Think Should Have Been the Top 5 on CBC's list

    1. One Week by the Barenaked Ladies

    2. Complicated by Avril Lavigne

    3. (Every Thing I Do) I Do It For You by Bryan Adams

    4. d**n! I Feel Like A Woman by Shania Twain

    5. Ironic by Alanis Morrisette

My actual top 5 Canadian songs are probably

    1. Hello Time Bomb - Matthew Good Band

    2. Somewhere Out There - Our Lady Peace

    3. Courage - Tragically Hip

    4. The Lines You Amend - Sloan

    5. Cinnamon Girl - Neil Young

  2. well blame Canada i love that song

    :P

  3. Here's one no one above mentioned: O Canada... our national anthem! :P

  4. Canadian Railroad Trilogy-Gordon Lightfoot

    Blow at High Dough-Tragically Hip

    NoSugar/New Mother Nature-The Guess Who

Hockey Night in Canada (Da  dada dada da dada dada)

    O Canada

  5. I don't know about top Canadian songs but there are a lot of top artists from Canada...not necessarily all my favorites but here's a few...

    Neil Young

    BTO

    Burton Cummings

    Chantel Kreviazik

    Raine Maida

    Jann Arden

    Finger 11

    Michael Buble

    Anne Murray

    Celine Dion

    Sarah McLachlan

    Bryan Adams

    Great Big Sea

    ....etc.

  6. good luck, but i dont think it matters who plays, sings, etc., the song or where they are from.

  7. Do you want the top five from all time, the top five recognized as Canadian, or just my personal top five? These will vary greatly.

If I had to pick five songs that I immediately recognize as signifying Canada to me, I would pick:

    1) "Canada Is" by Roger Whittaker

    2) "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot

    3) "Heart of Gold" by Neil Young

    4) "Summer of '69" by Bryan Adams

    5) "Patio Lanterns" by Kim Mitchell

However, there are so many excellent Canadian artists (example: Rush, Leonard Cohen, Burton Cummings, Loverboy, Tom Cochrane) that have put out great songs, so you will gte a wide variety of people with differing opinions.

If you want a good history of Canadian music over the years, buy a copy of the CD sets called "Oh What a Feeling". There are at least three sets of these available from Amazon or elsewhere.
