  1. I do not love our WELFARE program....but I DO LOVE CHILDREN.  When you put all else aside...social welfare programs help children.

I don't know how many children I have seen over the last five years in the public school system that only receive TWO meals a day...the free/reduced price breakfast and lunch they receive at school.

I am always heartbroken the first week of school to see those few kids that come back literally skin and bones after a long summer of very few meals.

The following programs (less-than functioning adults aside) keep so many children ALIVE!  The individuals that would suffer at the loss of welfare programs would be children.......who (in good conscious) could deny sustenance and medical attention to children.....regardless of whether or not their parent is a contributing member of society?

(1946) National School Lunch Program (loss of lunch)

(1964) Food Stamp Program (loss of food at home)

(1965) Medicare Program (loss of medical coverage)

(1965) Medicaid Program (loss of medical/dental/vision  coverage)

(1966) School Breakfast Program (loss of breakfast...good brain food/headstart for learning)

(1974) Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), etc. (loss of infant and toddler food, pre-natal care, food, training, etc.)
