  1. In my experience, anthropology students are very interested in other ways of living, other cultures, and other parts of the world - they are much more open minded than most other people in that sense.

  2. I have followed some courses from the Anthropology study in the Netherlands and I noticed they were all very curious about the third world and all had their own ideas about how the world turned out to be the way it is...

There was one thing that annoyed me a little though... Many of them felt they could make a difference but in doing so, they would sometimes talk about people in the third world as if they were children who needed their help, the good-doers from the West... They weren't aware of this and I really think their intentions were good, but they were all still very young and maybe a bit naive...

And I know I shouldn't generalize but in the end I think Anthropologists are pretty cool people who are willing to learn about other cultures. I prefer anthropology students to i.e law-students, who in many cases study merely for their own benefit and see a career in law as a good way to make a living, and nothing more than that...

  3. Nope, definetly not open minded. Many tend to be very one dimenssional.

  4. Some are open minded, but not in the idiot way that sociology students are open minded (see below), but rather a rational educated way while others are unfortunately so open minded you may think there is nothing to them (see above) or very critical of other cultures to the point where you know they're studying for business prospects. Anthropology students are typically a little more 'geeky' or passionate about their intellectual interests than students in other subjects may be, but of course, you'll find people like that in all fields except maybe, sociology.

  5. This is a no brainer. Unless a group is called the "jerks" or the "happy-go-lucky's" their personalities do not meld together under their single banner. anthropology students are "all of the above" so to speak. "jason" above is applying what is known as an "essence" a false social construction that has only srrved to falsely divide races and create conflict.

  6. I have noticed that when they have had a few months at it they all get tunnel vision, no matter what they were like before.

  7. Like any other group you get a wide variety: I have known Anthropology students who still adhere to ID/Creationism and others who are pretty open minded. Cultural anthropology students tend to be more bookish in my experience.

  8. I'm an anthropology student. There are many different personalities amongst the students that are studying anthropology with me. We have some Christians. There is even a fundamentalist among then. I think one guy is a Muslim. So like all professions there are a broad category of people that make up  the Anthropological profession
