I'm thinking of getting a birman kitten. I've done some research but I still don't know much about the breed and what they are really like. Are they friendly and affectionate? Do they like it outside or indoors? Do they need constant supervision? etc.

Any info would be really helpful, thanks :D

  1. The Birman personality is marvelous - gentle, active, playful, but quiet and unobtrusive if you are busy with other things. They are always affectionate and an excellent companion.  All cats should be indoors.  An indoor cat is safe, healthier and your bond will be much stronger.

  2. Any of the Foreign cats are a challenge!

They are just too intelligent for their own and for your good.

Loving,  (sometimes a bit over the top - they rarely do things by halves).

I would keep any cat where I live as a housecat, although I doubt anyone would want to steal my two remaining moggies since they are only of value to me, but I would be worried about other hazards - I've seen too many cats mangled and maimed on the roads in my Town, I've seen the result of a kitten half torn apart by a dog, I've climbed trees to rescue cats and listened to many people sobbing their hearts out because their cat was lost. (I was the local "Pet Searcher")

There are breed books written just about Birmans - good bedtime reading.

    They really are beautiful animals.
