What are CUNY & SUNY schools?

how are they different from regular schools?are they better? and which CUNY/ SUNY schools are good?

  1. CUNY stands for "City University of New York." It's the public university system in NYC. CUNY schools receive funding from the State of New York...but CUNY gets additional funding from the City of New York (NY State=the whole state; City of New York=basically Manhattan and the boroughs). SUNY stands for "State University of New York," and it has campuses spread all over NY State (whereas CUNY has them in New York City and the boroughs.

    They're not even comparable, really, to schools like Columbia or NYU, but they're pretty decent schools. I don't think CUNY or SUNY is better than the other...they both seem the same prestige-wise, though SUNY, on second thought, might have more name recognition.

    The best SUNY schools are SUNY Binghamton, SUNY Buffalo, and SUNY Stony Brook. Some might say Albany, but the truth is that it's really viewed as a party school.

    The best CUNY schools are Hunter College, Baruch College, and Brooklyn College (nickname: "the poor man's Harvard.")
