Is it easy to get through them, or is there any hassle? I will be travelling alone, so would appreciate your opinion. It will help me decide....Cairo or Luxor? Thanks

  1. Hi Filly, I have personal experience of travelling through both airports. I had hassle from local guys in Luxor, (not the officials) trying to tell me to get in the right line and asking for 'backsheesh'. Then the same day another one was watching me as I watched the bags on the carousel, and when I went to get my bag...he grabbed it first, hauled it off, and asked me for backsheesh. I hate that kind of hassle, and I refuse to give them any money.

In Cairo airport I did not have this kind of problem. They seemed more professional to me.

But even if you go through Luxor airport, just be firm with those guys, dont be frightened of them, they are just jerks trying to get money for nothing. Just keep saying NO, very firmly, the arabic for that is LA, if you say LA LA they will understand very good.

Enjoy your holiday wichever airport you choose.

    :)

  2. based on what i read on the travel blogs and reviews website i can tell it will be hard and exhusting, if you are lucky you everything will be okay.

  3. Cairo and Luxor Airports are more relaxed than any i have been to.

whether you arrive in Cairo or Luxor , it makes no difference whatsoever .

you would get your visa at the airport on the spot .

relax , there are no problems for relaxed travellers !

  4. I have travelled through both Luxor & Cairo airports many times, & as a single woman in past years, i've always found it easy. They are less uptight about things like where you come from & what your reason to visit is (unlike the UK airports for obvious reasons), & you can even buy your entrance VISA at Luxor airport & i've never seen anyone refused.

I have had some funny experiences though, like on one return journey the security guard on the departure lounge scanner made me put my bag through the scanner 10 times, oh & empty it as many times. He kept saying i had a 6 inch knife in there, it turned out to be a round metal eyeshadow case, no bigger than 2 inches across !

Then there was the poor man who they tried to make take the batteries out of his car keys (alarm), duh, they don't come out, but as luck had it the Captain of the plane was just checking in too & he told them they were being stupid (i understood enough to know it wasn't sweet talk, lol).

Then there was the time when they wanted to search my case, not problem, until he picked up my bra's & was holding them up to get a good look !

Yeh its safe, & it can be quite funny, i'd say not much to choose from between them. More it depends on what you want to do on your holiday, if its history your after, just go to Luxor it'll blow your mind.
