  1. They are deep fried dumplings serve with sweet and sour sauce! You may find frozen wonton wraps in most Asian/Chinese grocery stores then wrap some marinated pork, shrimps and mushroom (with soy sauce, corn starch, egg white, rice wine and sugar) with the wonton wraps and deep fry them with peanut oil.

Prepare sweet and sour sauce by mixing a some ketchup, rice vinegar, sugar, water, corn starch and a tiny bit of soy sauce in a bowl, boil this sauce in a sauce pan till the thicken, adjust the taste by adding some more sugar or salt. Add a few drops of cooked peanut oil to make the sauce shiny.  You may add some stir fried onion slices, carrot slices in this sweet and sour sauce.

Crispy deep fried wonton taste good when served hot with sweet and sour sauce and it is a typical Cantonese snack.

  2. they hurt the roof of my mouth!!!

  3. They are little deep fried parcels (same stuff as spring rolls) filled with a bit of minced meat - what meat I'm not sure! They are really nice, usually come with a sweet & sour dipping sauce. I like 'em.

  4. "Wonton, like a number of Chinese foods,

should not be eaten in polite company.

They must be served piping hot and slurped down."

It is a bite-size small parcel made up of a paper-thin wheat-based sheet wrapped around a filling of minced meat with a variety of complementary ingredients.

The Chinese usually serve wontons in soups as part of a communal meal. They are also served at eating places / restaurants if you order a single dish of wonton noodle soup.

But you can serve them deep fried as crispy wontons.  Deep fried wontons make great party food. They are crispy, light and oh so portable. Who can resist a crispy deep fried wonton?  Wontons can have a variety of fillings, anything form pork and shrimp, to chicken and basil, to crab rangoon, to cream cheese and they are delicious!  Here is a video for you to see how they are made.  Go ahead and order some, you won't be sorry.

  5. Crispy wontons are dumplings made from a pastry that you can pick up in your local grocery store where they keep the tofu and the produce..

you can make any kind of filling from pork to beef to chicken. We use tofu and cabbage with soy sauce and scallions sauteed with onions and garlic. Then you take about a half teaspoon and put it in the center of the square wonton wrapper.  take a dab of water on your finger, moisten the edges  and fold the Wonton over in a triangular fashion pressing until the corners are joined.  Then put it on a greesed plate.  After that you fry them and they come out GREAT.

A yummy and easy dipping sauce is: 2 tblspoons soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of lime juice, 1 1/2 teaspoons of sesame oil and one scallion.  whisk together and you have an awesome dipping sauce!!

  6. usually we wrap seasoned minced pork + mashed shrimp paste in the wonton's skin then some goes into soup n serve while other deep fried it. u can goes w/ a bit salad dressing when they deep fried it. it's tasty!

  7. crispy won tons always look nice but then they turn out to be greasy and tasteless. the only good thing about them is the crunch. if its a high end restaurant, the won tons might be home made and hence better, but the standard ones are pretty gross, in my experience.

  8. having worked in a chinese resturant, i would personally pass on them as i"ve seen what they are made from.

they"re made from all the leftover bits of meat, (including rind and gristle and bone),  put into a mixer, mixed up and then shaped into round balls to make the won tons.. horrid

  9. won tons are made with minced pork wrapped in pastry and deep fried, they are very nice.
