  1. Crotons are foliage houseplants of varying bizarre and brilliant color combinations and leaf patterns, often in fantastic reds, yellows, and greens, striped, stippled, splashed, or spotted. .There are many different types and hybrids out there.  They can summer outdoors on the patio.

Crotons need bright light for best color development, and adequate attentive watering. Crotons fail rapidly without abundant watering and humidity.

  2. They are both, depending on which zone you live in.

  3. They are an indoor plant and as tashi said..she has it down..One other thing they are suceptable to collecting dust and dust mites..we always took ours out once a week weather permitting and really soaked them down with a hose and blasted the dust off with a gentle spray nozzle of the whole plant

  4. Well they are sold as house plants but I have grown them outdoors too.  You can plant them in the garden with your flowers and they make a very nice colorful accent outside as long as you don't want to leave them over winter.  They can't take cold temperatures and they need a lot of water if they are being kept indoors or outdoors. They won't tolerate being dry.  I have also seen them get over watered though.  Water them about once a week but check mid week to make sure they are staying moist.  They can develop bug problems.  They can get mites which will cause them to have little spider webs all over the plant and mealy bugs seem to think crotons are delicious.  One other thing, Crotons are poisonous to people and animals so keep them out of reach of kids, cats, or dogs.
