  2. * 1939-1955: 90% silver (presumably alloyed with copper), .7725 Troy ounces of actual silver weight (ASW) per as-minted coin

    * 1963, 65% silver, .5579 Troy ounces ASW

    * 1972, 1974, 90% silver, .7725 ASW

    *1965, then 1976-on, copper-nickel

    There were also some 90% silver Proof coins issued in some years from 1976-on, in various silver weights.  These will generally be found in their original mint envelopes or cases.

    Finally, there were also some 1986 coins minted in nickel-bonded steel.
