Joe is very mistaken by Castro.  Not only is food NOT free he has limited the amount of food a family can obtain. Including restricting milk to children once a child reaches a certain age.

As for restoration, Ha! From pictures of pre-Castro, and early years of his regine, yes, Cuba had some of the most beautiful sites. However, building are now literally crumbling down!

Yes health care is free to all citizens, unfortunately there is no medicine, medical supplies, anesthesia, etc...

One of his biggest accomplishments is that of separating families.

Oh, and lets not forget how President Castro also manage to ruin one of the island biggest money making commodities: Sugar!

Yes, he has accomplished quite a bit in his 50 years in power.

And by the way... Cuba is being used as a brothel by most (not all) of the European tourist that visit the island. It is obvious some people answered this question without any knowledge what so ever.

Wow.  Being American its hard to agree with the above joe lou Castro tried to help the Russian Nuke the u.s. so thee embargo is there for a reason he is a dictator in my mind and accomplished nothing but hurt his own while he lived high on the hog.  Hopefully his brother will do right by his people.

Fidel never did anything good

to be honest. He told people

he would do many things that everyone

would be equal and he everybody gave

him money and put him as president.

He took everybodies money and puts a limit to what they can eat/where/why

what they can buy how much can they buy.

How much money  they get.

My grandfather was arrested by him cause he worked as a cop from the president before. He took all his money away and took away his dream of being a cop..he nothing

but a piece of sh**!!

There is a lot of exaggeration in some of the answers he did make a lot of things accessible to everyone and the ideals are very noble and morally correct everyone should have free housing and medical care unfortunately it is very poor quality if you hear otherwise its communist propaganda at its best but his successfull accomplishment which I like is equality and human rights. no discrimination, and also low crime rate.

Education, free education for eveybody in the highest standards of quality for everybody.

Social Security,  free medical care for everybody, no matter if it is a dental work or a open heart surgery.

Promoting sports, famous base ball players, box players, and some of the best sport trainers in the world.

Free housing for everybody.

Free food (some restricted) for everybody.

Wonderful work in the restoration of the Historic downtown area, La Habana Vieja.

Farming, mining, promoting of tourism etc., even with the embargo imposed by the United States, it has been just remarkable.

In few words I would say Castro has been updating the country to the highest levels as much as he can, but limited because of the embargo.

Now they can get cell phones and computeres but unfortunately the speed is very very slow due to the embargo.  They are not allowed to connect to the internatinal servers nor the optic fiber.

Well they are doing the best they can.

It's ridiculous how most of the 'thought out', 'researched', and 'experienced' answers they've given is made to seem like it's written in stone. I'd like them to go to Cuba right now, and see if they're pretty little sparkling facts are as true as they write them to be.

YES, they have free health care, housing, and education. They use it for the virtually medicine free hospitals, crumbling homes, and book-less schools.

Joelou is absolutely RIGHT. Fidel Castro has made Cuba one of the safest nations in all of Latin America.

- Low murder rate

- Low theft rate

- Low prostition rate (considering other LA countries)

Cuba has one of the best health care systems in all of LA, as well.

- Free for all citizens

- Major exporter of doctors to regions in need

- Free for all foreigners

- Lowest infancy death rate in LA, lower than USA

Cuba has one of the best education systems in the world, esspecially LA.

- 97% literacy rate

- Some of the worlds best universities

- Some of the best medical schools in the world (including the Latin American School of Medicine, a med. school for foreigners who agree to work in low income area of their home countries, and it's free)

- Free and guaranteed education for all citizens

Kept Cuba from imperialist dominance

- Defended homeland from American invasion during Bay of Pigs

- Stood up to the USA during Cuban Missile crisis

- First time in Cuba's history it has been TRUELY independant

The group of terrorists in south Florida who refuse to support their home country is absurd. Luis Posada Carriles bombed air Cubana flight 455 in 1973. These people are bitter that Fidel Castro has brought the AVERAGE Cuban the ability to live in a home, have education, and health care and that Fidel kicked out the imperial empire who supported the exploiters of Cuba. The Florida Cuban population is generally made up of the rich Cubans who fled after the revolution and their children, and their lies continue. If Cubans didn't support Castro, why did the Bay of Pigs fail, as well as numerous other attempts by the US to kill and attack Cuba??
