a nice piece of fish cooked in a great batter, deep fried of course, and lovely fried potatoes, not the mceedee kind, eaten  with pickled onions, vinegar, and a good beer. And yes i know your pulling the leg, or you've been seriously cloistered all your life, anyway now you know, get out there and eat some.

usually it is a white fish, cod, haddock or similar, dipped in batter (a mix of flour, salt, water, ale) then deep fried in a frier or a pan, so it becomes golden crusty -yum yum, served with a portion of fries and a slice of lemon, if you are buying it from the chip shop, you'll get it wrapped in a brown paper or news paper, pure class, and instead of lemon, squeeze some vinegar! Delish, drink lager or any beer that you might like, it's the proper lazy take out food and it a national dish in Great Britain.

Oh, by the way, Fish 'n' chips tastes even better if you are by the sea...I had the best ever in Brighton

The fish is usually a portion of either cod or haddock (but other fish are used at times) coated in batter (a mixture of flour, eggs and milk) and deep fried. The chips are what American call crisps or fries - potatoes cut into fingers and deep fried as well.

its just fish with fries!! well actully its fried fish with fries!! i dont eat it cuz im vegetarian but my dad eats it!!! !!! u can like have the fish first and then the chips or u can have the chips first and then the fish or u can have both together like most people!!! heres the picture!!

Fish is usually cod or haddock, dipped in batter and then deep fried at a high temperature.

Chips are potatoes cut into sticks and then deep fried.

They are often served with mushy peas, and with salt and malt vinegar as condiments.

A side portion of bread and butter to make a chip butty with and a cup of English style tea with a dash of milk make the perfect Fish and Chip  meal.
