  1. In simple terms:

There's a little part of Georgia that wants to break away. It has been governing itself for quite a while and Russia has been guarding it from Georgian troops. Recently Georgia sent their troops in to try and reclaim the area. Russia retaliated.

  2. it was a long-lasting conflict- not between Georgia and Russia- between Georgia and South Osetia. and the georgian government's policy was not so friendly at all!! they hate the osetians. Russia was appointed as the peace-keeper for that region after the first conflit in 1994 (I think)- and now they did what they were supposed to do- protect the civilians, keep the peace, and it is not they who should be blamed- it is Georgia!! or actually its president..

  3. Russia is doing the same thing Germany did when Germany invaded Czechoslovakia years ago.   As you recall,  Hitler said he was doing it to protect Germans there. Now Putin says he is doing this to protect Russians.

    History repeats itself.

Now start singing "Russia Over All"   and saying "Sieg Heil" to Putin.

  4. Georgia was trying to retake a breakaway region of their nation that was supported by Russian-backed military separatists. When Georgia began to fight against the Russian-backed separatists, Russia got involved (since they were training/supplying/funding the separatists) and whooped Georgia good.

    To remember...

So, what is USA defending in Iraq? Are there many americans in Iraq? Or Iraq is full of oil?

  6. Georgia used to be a part of the Soviet Union.  They gained independence..It's almost exactly like the war of 1812.  It's like if Virginia suddenly declared independence and started patrolling their border with machine guns and tanks..We would attack.  I don't sympathize with Russia, I side with Georgia on this matter, but that is the situation.  None of us, including the media, know the facts as to why the shooting began, but, I would guess that Russia provoked it simply because Georgia has absolutely no reason to provoke any kind of response from the Russians.  They have everything to lose and nothing to gain.  Russia, however, has everything to gain from a conflict and really nothing to lose.
