What are Guitar Cabinets and Amp Heads?

I am quite confused about Guitar Cabinets and Amp heads. What are their functions? Would it be possible to plug in my amp into a cabinet?

  1. ok, it IS possible to use guitar amps with your cabinet. and basically what they are are the following...

    - Cabinet Head- Is something you hook up to your cabinet which allows you to plug in your instrument.

    -Cabinet- Is usually a 4 speaker kind of box thing. which allows the sound travel from either the head or the amp.

    The Cabinet is just a box with speakers in it.

    Amp Heads are what they seem Amplifiers that need to be plugged into a speaker cabinet (w/ speakers) to be heard.
