  1. hov lanes are lanes  emergency vehicles use

  2. High Occupancy Vehicle lanes and they are made basically to help be environmentally friendly. if you have a clean pass or hybrid car, or if you have more than one person or you are on a motorcycle you can ride it and it helps a lot with traffic.

  3. what others said but also my mom called the cops cause there was a motorcycle with only 1 person riding in the HOV lane and they told her motorcycles are allowed in the HOW lane, even with only 1 person

  4. High Occupancy Vehicle lanes, designed to encourage car-pooling.  Vehicles with only a driver on board are not allowed to use them.

You will find them in Houston and several other large cities with nightmarish rush hours.  They will probably be much more common in the future.

  5. HOV stands for High Occupancy Vehicle.  The lanes are restricted to vehicles carrying more than one person.  Most HOV lanes are restricted to vehicles carrying at least two passengers (including the driver), while some major urban areas require three or four people per vehicle.

The lanes are implemented to relieve traffic congestion by encouraging commuters to carpool.

  6. Traffic lanes limited to use by vehicles with a certain number of occupants, usually 2, but in some cases, 3, thus "high occupancy vehicles". They are all through California and several other states. Here, in CA, there is now a movement to make some of them toll lanes.

  7. they are lanes that only allow Buses or carpools (more than one person) are allowed in

it's supposed to help the flow of traffic

  8. they are meant for more than one person in the car. so as a reward, you get your own special lane

  9. High Occupancy Vehicle lanes.  Must have more than one person in a vehicle to use it.

They are supposed to be there to reward people who carpool.

  10. I believe HOV lanes are for carpooling or cars with more than one passenger. We don't have them here in Oklahoma either.

  11. HOV stands for 'high occupancy vehicle'.  These lanes exist in some states (but not all).  The simplest explanation for why they're there is to promote carpooling.

By restricting an HOV lane to cars having 2 or more passengers, for instance, the DMV is encouraging people to ride together to work.  Since HOV lanes may have a higher speed limit than other lanes or bypass some exits, they may be a good deal faster to drive in than other lanes and promote the smooth flow of traffic during otherwise busy times (especially rush hour).

  12. They are High Occupancy Vehicle Lanes (HOV Lanes). They are restricted to cars with only ONE occupant (the driver) in them....cars with 2 or more people can use the HOV or Carpool Lanes....

I wish Illinois had them....we have express lanes on the 90/94 in Chicago but I think its for people that wanna get somewhere quicker--not for people who wanna carpool....

  13. They are lanes designed for more than one person to use so more will carpool and reduce traffic congestion in places like Washington, D.C.  Just be sure you actualy have more than one live person in the car with you.  Folks have used everything from blow up dummies, to manequins in the passenger seat because they felt there was no valid reason 'they' should have to be restricted to the regular lanes like every other driver.  Tickets have been issued for this kind of thing.

  14. High Occupancy Vehicles (HOV) . They are used a lot in Dallas & they're lanes for vehicles with two or more people in it. Basically for carpoolers. If you ride down it solo you get a ticket.

  15. high occupancy vehicles

  16. High occupancy vehicle lanes

  17. They are for vehicles with multiple passengers, they are trying to encourage car pooling.

  18. High Occupancy Vehicle lanes. they require 2 or more people in the car to use the lanes. they're there to encourage car pooling.

  19. They are traffic lanes on highways that carpoolers are allowed to use.  You need to have at least 2 people in your car to use it.  You can get a ticket if you don't have 2 people in your car.

  20. High Occupancy Vehicle.

Usually for workers with more than 1 person in the vehicle (good for carpoolers)

  21. High occupancy vechiles...they are supposed to get people to car pool and by doing so you can drive in those lanes and in theory avoid traffic....hov 2 = min of two people in the car..peace
