What are Hermit Crab Allergy Symptoms?

Question

I went to the beach, then I got a Hermit Crab from someone.

The next day my face got all red and puffy.

Does that mean I am allergic to him? If so, is there anything else that can go along with the allergies?

Please as well list you source(s), so that I can check them out. The more info the better, this way I can vote you for best answer.

http://www.hermit-crabs.com/index.html may have the answers for you.  The only thing I can suggest is that your particular hermit crab has mites, perhaps- and you don't get along with those.  It may also have been something on his shell.   Living the way they do, in water and sand, and the fact that they will scavenge- it's really hard to say what may have been on his shell.  From his shell to your hands, and from your hands to your face- well, that is the usual way we end up with irritated facial skin.  I'd start with disinfecting his shell.  I'm no hermit crab expert myself, but the link I gave you seems to have loads of info on the care of the critters and perhaps an email to the gentleman would get you a better answer.  Meantime, I'd say wash your hands and keep them away from your face after you handle your new friend.
