I dont have gcse's as i was home educated ive heard of IGCSE's but are they recognized by universities? if so how many should i take? will i need A levels/ AS levels? what is the diffrence between A level and AS levels?

I would like to take maths and science as ICGSE's and english and psychology as GCSE's as i feel i need to do the course work to get a high grade.

Where can i take IGCSE's?

  1. You're probably better off asking a homeschool support group in the UK.

  2. Hi. I live in France and took IGCSEs. I think that IGCSEs are harder than UK GCSEs. But maybe that is just me because I did them and not GCSEs.

Anyway, I took 7 IGCSEs and 3 AS levels. This year i am doing the A2 part of my A-levels, so the same three subjects as I did for AS level.

You can't normally do IGCSEs as well as GCSEs, so if you are home tutored like me, it is best to stick to IGCSEs.

There is no problem using IGCSEs if you want to apply to UK universities. I am applying right now ane there is no problem. They accepted my brother to Aberdeen with his IGCSEs.

So, there you go...knowledge form someone who has been there.... :D

  3. "The International General Certificate of Secondary Education, or IGCSE, is an international qualification for school students. IGCSE was developed by University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) in 1988, and is currently offered as a qualification by CIE and London Examinations (Edexcel International)."

This, and more on IGCSEs from Wikipedia, the free, online encyclopedia at:

    Hope this helps!
