  1. It just means thunderstorms are possible, but they will be few and far between...affecting only a small portion of the forecast area.  In other words, most locations covered by the forecast will not see a thunderstorm, but a few "isolated" place will.  And unlike what a previous answerer said, isolated thunderstorm can be severe.

  2. A isolated thunderstorms are just stray thunderstorms. Not anything too big. There might be a storm 20miles away, but there isn't one where you are. Normal storms are usually together in a line because of a cold front. But in this case, they just are scattered around, and there might not even be a storm at all. Have fun in Vegas(:

  3. Meteorologists use the terms to apply to the percentage of the area that are likely to revieve precipitation.

Few is generally considered 5% or less area coverage

Isolated less than 15% area coverage

    Widely scattered 15-24% area coverage

    Scattered 25-54% area coverage

Numerous 55% or greater area coverage

Widespread 55% or greater area coverage

  4. Isolated thunderstorms are especially common during the summer in the mid-late afternoon when it is hot and humid. This is when you see those high towering, popcorn looking clouds in the middle of the afternoon when the sun hits the grounds and heats the air up. Usually isolated storms do not cover a large area. Normally when meteorologists predict isolated thunderstorms, they only call for about a 20-30% chance of rain. Most isolated storms are not severe, but occasionally 1 or 2 could become severe to produce strong winds and small hail. They are almost never tornado-producing storms.

  5. There is a difference between Isolated T'Storms and Severe T'Storms.Severe T'Storms are bad and Isolated T'Storms arent that bad.

  6. Isolated thunderstorms are when there are either thunderstorms present at the current time or there is a change for them to form, but they are scattered. These usually occur in the afternoon and the evening when the sun is out at its peak and heats up the atmoshpere. However, Isolated thunderstorms do not occur when a front passes by because usually  a front will produce a very long line of a chain of thunderstorms. Also, Isolated thunderstorms can be as severe or even worse compared to thunderstorms that occur on a frontal boundry.

  7. Isolated just means that they are more sporadic.  It's not like a front of constant storms or anything.  In Michigan, it means that it will storm on and off throughout the day, or many times not at all as the storms may not even come over your location, just be nearby.
