  1. he's straight up and down. No head movement and straight forward and can't counter just like jermain taylor.

A slick boxer or a guy the same as him with head movement and can counter would give him problems I feel.

  2. Defense has to be it. If you want to read about his fight head on over to http://www.fightjunkie.com/predictions they have a write-up on the fight and also a forum where you can go and chat about this and many other fight related stuff.

  3. Easy to get hit with a counter. Not much lateral head movement. Predictable punching combo.

  4. Taylor was a slick boxer and also a huge middleweight. Just because a guy gets knocked down does not mean he has a weak chin. Its if they can get back and keep going. And if they come back to knock out the other guy like Pavlik did then that sais more about them then if they hadn't been knocked down.

Pavlik is not a graceful boxer, he does not move his upper body much and he is pretty flat footed. But he is a huge middleweight with big power, aggression and big reach.

There is no fighter from Middleweight to Super Middleweight that I see pose much of a problem for Pavlik. But with Pavlik's size I cant see him being able to make the weight at those divisions much longer.

  5. Mechanical with a rather limited offense, especially from the outside. His outside offense pretty much consists of a jab (sometimes double and tripled and a right cross).

His offense shines when he's in close or has an opponent hurt.

He also has no real footwork and his defense is rather shoddy.

That being said, his biggest asset is his workrate and stamina. Combined with his punching power and size, he's a nightmare for anyone at middle.

  6. He isn't fast with his hands or his feet.  He compensates with a good jab and good fundamentals.  However someone with great speed may beat him.

  7. Echoing most here (of course bearing in mind its much easier to point out his strengths), his versatility on offense and defense appear to be limited to just chin tucked, hands up, moving forward throwing jabs and straight right hands.  Its been very effective for him obviously, but you can envision a technician giving him fits - also, Taylor exposed some vunerability in his chin, a bigger puncher than Taylor could do much worse.

  8. Agree with many here. He's defensively sound, but not spectacular. Pavliks best defense is his offense. Hes taller than most middles, has a damaging jab, and a smaller fighter ventures into his range at great peril. He has world class stamina, and as he proved in his fights with Taylor, he can come back from adversity. His weakness might be that hes not the fastest guy. But for a faster man to take advantage of this, hes got to neutralize Pav's height & jab, and be able to move in and out & to stay out of Pavliks range-easier said than done.

  9. this is my boy! I love Pavlik.

But hes a little too straight up and doesnt have the BEST defense. although its not bad either. And his left hook could be better....cause you KNOW hes gonna drop that straight right. so it would be nice to see a left hook compliment it. he doesnt have a bad one, it could just be better. i dont want to say his chin is suspect cause against taylor he dropped his hands and let his gaurd down to taunt jermain. and thats when he got clipped. he didnt do that again the rest of the fight (or second fight) and that was jermains last real moment. and hes also a little predictable with knowing what punches are coming.

but i really dont think he has too many GLARING weaknesses. Hes very strong with good hand speed and a nice jab. He has a lot of power. not one punch type but the kind that just wears you down. And has a good chin. he took some of Mirands best shots (how many guys can say that?) and what i love about him...hes always in control. meaning he doesnt overthrow his punches. and hes one of the best finishers in the game. when you're hurt....youre done. cause he doesnt go crazy and throw from his *** just cause he knows hes got you. he stays in control and uses the punches that got him to that point.

We can say he has all this weakness....but NOBODY has exposed them yet are actually proved them to be weaknesses. It aint a weakness until somebody proves it to be. You would think Marciano's size was a weakness, but no heavyweight EVER beat him, so apparently it wasnt.

A lot of you say his chin, but watch the miranda fight (and he DOES have more power than Taylor) and you say his footwork or handspeed. But thats the beauty of this sport...every fighter is different and good in his own way. There never has been a fighter who had EVERY piece of the puzzle. But we wont know his weakness till somebody actually beats him and shows us what it is....
