  1. Although I think they would perform better as North Melbourne as the MCG, there seems to be a niche in the market at the Gold Coast. At the moment their problem is that they don't really play enough up there for them to get used to it as a home ground.

If they permanently moved up there and played all of their home ground games then if done well it could become a place to fear more or less. Skilled Stadium to Geelong, the Gabba to Brisbane and the SCG to Sydney all come to mind as venues that are hard to visit and come away with a win.

Its always harder to win games when the opponent plays most of their home games there, especially if they are the only team that does that.

Telstra Dome has about 3 teams home venue. Therefore other teams play there quite a few times a year. It makes it much easier to play then a venue where you visit it once a year.

Going on with what deedubya said below, St Kilda could move about 40 mins out the other way to Casey fields. Its a developing land and Casey is the most populous municipality  in Victoria. Its also where their aligned VFL team is located, the Casey Scorpions.

Its expected that by 2015 Casey fields will be large enough to host some AFL games (practice matches etc), much like Gold Coast Stadium, Darwin, Canberra etc.

I think that would be a good move for St Kilda, although many are fighting for it to stay at Moorabin.

  2. I was at the Game at Carrara and there seem to be Quite a large attendence about 13 000 i would say. Not to say that the majority was supporting the roos though, the crowd was about half roos and half crows and that probably the sort of mix you would get from a Gold Coast crowd nearly everyone hear who supports AFL of Australian Rules Football has move to the coast from the southern states and they all support different teams so there will always be a decent crowd.

  3. I have to agree with you there. I always believed they should be known as as North Melbourne Kangaroos, I understand why they changed to just The Kangaroos. Money talks, and it has save North from distinction.

Yes its time to go back as North Melbourne, and for North's fans sake, its time to have The "G" as their home ground.

  4. Do you even know why theyre playing on the Gold Coast?Well u obviously don't.  They're playing at the GC to get more supporters and the AFL want a south east queensland team so they pay kangas to play there.

Secondly of course they're not gonna get a big crowd Carrara only holds 14,000. And they're not getting bad crowds there, theyre getting 12000 everygame they play there and its the first year theyve played there.

Thirdly, we have that jumper to avoid clashing with other teams, and if u go back quite a while ago we used to wear that (except the logo) in the 20's.

And lastly, as if they lose there? They beat Brisbane, Carlton, and some teams in the NAB Cup and have lost twice once in the h & a season which was yesterday. Its against the crows man, in the past 5 years they are the most successful team interstate i think. And are a very good team. So cut us some slack man.

    GEEEZZZZE!!!!

  5. Sydney -(Sth Melb) & Brisbane-(Fitzroy), have both competed in the last 6 AFL Grand Finals.  This is the aftermath of their relocation, which created great anguish and many tears, however now,... there is no looking back.    The City of Melbourne in reality,  simply can't sustain 10 clubs into the future .  Hawthorn have taken the tenative step with a part connection withTassy, Carlton Collingwood, & Essendon, have the strong supporter base  following to succed  in  Melbourne, and Geelong are ok an hour out of town.  Richmond possibly have the next best supporter Base ..   and  it comes to Victoria's most vunerable clubs .  Melbourne , Western Bulldogs,St Kilda and the Kangaroos .    Melbourne obviously have to stay simply because of their name, but the big question mark has to be the future in Victoria , of the Bulldogs , St Kilda  and the Kangaroos.   If the AFL have a blueprint in place you would have to expect a second club in both Qld and NSW is basically only a matter of time.  The Kangaroos should bite the bullet and except the Gold Coast as their home , with the Western Bulldogs the perfectly named club to play home game' s out of Telstra stadium in the WEST of Sydney .     St Kilda with recent problems at Moorabbin could do a Geelong, and move an hour out Melbourne and set up in what originally was their strong recruiting ground and become the Ballarat Saints .    On the subject of the Kangaroos Jumper, I totally agree.  If its a marketing ploy to emulate the BIG V, its simply a SHOCKER!

  6. North Melbourne is confusing, a premiership in 1996 and 1999. Wayne Carey is a hero, then messes around with Anthony Stevens wife and leaves the club. The team plays a few home games in Sydney, Canberra, Colonial Stadium (or Telstra Dome) and now Carrara to get a supporter base that disappeared in Melbourne, whether at the MCG or at Arden Street.  North and Footscray just do not have the money anymore to exist or compete. Someday North Melbourne will have to relocate to the Gold Coast, Footscray (or Western Bulldogs, whatever) to Darwin and Hawthorn to Tasmania. Unfortunately, the city of Melbourne cannot support nine league teams. The interstate sides just have too much money compared to the Victorian sides.
