The decorative items that Panama is most famous for are brightly colored Molas.  

A Mola is a hand-sewn cloth using an appliqué technique.

The women of the Kuna Yala Indians, on Panama's north coast do the sewing. The word "Mola" in their language, means blouse. And they wear them. You can see the women

walking in the Pedestrian Mall, the "Peatonal".

The Mola can be framed in many ways and hung as art.  The most common subject matter of the Mola is nature. They can be birds, fish, monkeys, etc.

There is a craft market in Panama City, near Plaza de Cinco de Mayo that has the best selection and lowest prices.

There you will see all of the decorative crafts that Panama is known for including the Panama Hats that are made in Panama (not the ones from Ecuador).

You will also find tightly woven baskets, carved and painted seeds and bead jewelry made by the Embera Indians.

The prices are better there than anywhere else in Panama because it is off of the mainstream.
