  1. A PDA and a smartphone are two different things; a smartphone has telephone and PDA capabilities.  So if you want a phone, you'll need a smartphone, not a PDA.

I have both.  My PDA is a Palm Z22, and my smartphone is a Blackberry Curve.  I don't need two, obviously, but I maintain them because I like Palm's calendar better than the Blackberry.  Basically, you get a handheld organizer.  So if you forget appointments for work or school or whatever, and you need to be reminded of birthdays and important tasks, it could come in handy.  (And, of course, it never hurts to have solitaire for those long lines, lol.)  I keep my friends' addresses in it so I have them when I need to send a card.

  2. I would get a smartphone that runs on the windows platform. You can then have the same functionality as a PDA but half the size.

PDA's tend to be big and bulky

  3. PDA stands for Personal Digital Assistant (or something like that) and they are basically a combination of phones with organizational tools built in.

I mostly use mine for the calendar feature.  I'm juggling far too many things for me to be able remember where I'm supposed to be all the time so I write it down in my PDA so that I can reference it when I need to.

I also use the Task Lists fairly often and the Contacts (phone book) database.  Additionally, I've gotten used to being able to access the Internet and check my email from the phone as well.

As for you, there is no way for us to know whether or not you will use one.  As a rule of thumb, I would say that it mostly depends on your schedule.  If you mostly work at one location with somewhat consistent hours (or if they change them so often that you have to constantly check back with them anyway), then you may not use one often enough to justify the expense (you have to pay a bunch to get the thing and then you have to pay a bunch more every month for the services).

But, if you work at multiple locations and/or have appointments with different people at different times, then you may want to consider it.

  4. I've been using 'em for about 10 years! The latest versions are phones as well, and some can access the net, Very useful tool.

I am using a Nokia Communicator (9500), if you don't want a camera, get an older 9210i, it's a better business tool. Check with your network as to whether they support the phone.

  5. I use mine for internet access & for the organizer on it that reminds me of upcoming meetings, & dr appointments..etc. My phone also has microsoft word & excel, but I very rarely use those features.

  6. PDA's are great for using the internet and looking at documents on the go good for if you need to work while on holiday and then submit it to your office servers
