Could our American cousins help?

Whilst watching TV here in England,

I have heard the term "Pigs In Blankets" mentioned in American programmes.

I think that the term is describing a kind of food.

Can anyone tell me exactly what a "pig in blanket is".

Please no stupid answers,- its a sensible question.

  1. hot dogs wrapped in pastry then baked. Usually it is done with small weiners, not full-size sausages.

  2. Sausage or sausage meat in dough ( it can even be Pillsbury refrigerated crescent rolls), baked. You can get them at many bake shops as sausage rolls.

    Here's a variation:

  3. A sausage link (usually an American "Hot Dog" but any sausage will work), wrapped in bread dough or biscuit dough (American biscuits, not British which we call "cookies") and baked.

    Bert

  4. Everyone is correct but everyone left out 1 thing.  Cheese.

Slice the hot dog and stuff it with cheese.  Then wrap the crescent dough around it and bake a few minutes.

  5. they are hamburger and rice balls rolled up in a cabbage leave and cooked in tomato sauce.

mix burger and rice together. boil cabbage and remove leaves. place ball in leave and put in roaster. cover with sauce and bake. p.s. i cover mine with tomato soup insted of tomato sauce.

  6. The version I'm aware of is a hot dog wrapped in pastry dough.

Very popular with kids; I haven't had one in a long time.

EDIT - just looked it up.  In the UK, it is often a sausage; in the US, it is often a hot dog.  Both are correct.

  7. Just our version of a sausage roll. As you can see there are several variations. Cheers.

  8. A hot dog, rolled up in crescent roll dough (Pillsbury makes them in refrigerated tubes) and baked

  9. It's just a mini hot dog wrapped up in a biscuit.

  10. I use cocktail wieners and wrap them in a croissant. Bake them and you have pigs in a blanket!

  11. Usually it's sausages, folded in a pancake (flapjack to you).

They're similar to your sausage rolls, but for kids at breakfast.
