Most natural hazards don't happen in Portland unless you include frost heaves! There are a few ice storms once in a while. The rare blizzard, a 20 inch snow storm only shuts down the city for one day. This year there have been some severe thunderstorms. Minor earthquakes occur in Maine but you usually don't feel them. I can't recall a hurricane hitting( usually they hit Conn. and are just a tropical storm by the time they get up here). As long as you have a couple days of food and water, a flashlight and a way to stay warm(wood stoves are popular) you should be fine
