What are Scientists that put scientific knowledge to practical use called??

This is a strange question.  There are a lot of of professionals who do that.  Not all engineers are scientists.  Some just work.  Others do research.  People who do research are known scientists, they seek answers and work on it as a job.  Architects design buildings!

So i think you are asking this question wayy out of context.  Because in every field, there are scientists who make this world practical.  Engineers who did research on airplanes, resulted in better planes.  Doctors who designed better drugs, made the world healthier.  So as you can see, your question is too vague.  There could perhaps be a General term, but I don't know that.
