What are THE seven deadly sins?

They're a Catholic thing.  All sins are deadly, and the only way to be saved from them is turning to God.  To Him, sin is sin.  Murder is worse than, say, stealing to human beings, but it's all bad to Him.

As another answer indicated, the seven are lust, greed, gluttony, sloth, wrath, envy and pride.

Yes, the choice of a particular set of seven sins is specifically Catholic, but the list is a valuable one for anyone to consider, Christian or not.  Some have said that the worst sin is pride, because it keeps us from asking humbly for help, forgiveness, etc.  And this means other people, too, not just God.  

Note that Lucifer's sin was pride.  Most if not all the other seven sin are more physical.  But pride has been called the "spiritual" sin because it doesn't depend on physical excess, like the others do.  

The sins can be countered with the four cardinal virtues: prudence, temperance, fortitude and justice.  Or wisdom, self-discipline, strength and fairness.

The term "seven deadly sins,"is politically incorrect. Just a way for the human to use denial. Does not the bible quote that breaking only one commandment is enough? Then how can you break two and be guilty of one? The best route for any person is to not put on the robe of self-righteousness and from there I'm sure your creator will see a honest endeavor to "LEARN" how to be not controlled by "HUMAN NATURE."

Only the soul of man "Nephesh," can be tempted, not the spirit.

They were used in early Christian teachings to educate and instruct followers concerning (immoral) fallen man's tendency to sin.

The following seven are:

1. Lust

2. Greed

3. Gluttony

4. Sloth

5. Wrath

6. Envy

7. Pride
