Question:

What are Thumbs? (Data Base File)

Hi, I have a big file of pictures and I am copying them into a CD. It has a pop up saying that :

"The File 'Thumbs' Has extra information attached to it that may be lost if you continue copying. The contents of the file will not be affected. Do you want to copy the file anyway? "

What does this mean? Is it alright to continue copying? Because that's what I'm doing. But when I open the copied CD file, I can see a small "Thumb" file.

I am grateful, thank you!

  1. that's unimportant. it's just a thumb image cache file. it stores file information of all the images in that folder. you can delete that if you want.

  2. it is a cache of thumbails in the directory its located in. it makes the thumbnails in a folder load faster. you dont need it at all so u can delete it.

  3. Windows Explorer creates a cache of thumbnail images in each picture folder so that it doesn't have to generate the thumbs over and over each time you open that folder in thumbnail view.   It just speeds things up a little.  You don't see the little cache files normally as they are hidden, but your CD burner will be aware of them of course and will throw up the messages that you see.  There's no reason to let the thumbs.db files copy to CD,  but it doesn't matter.

  4. The 'Thumbs.db' file is a file (which is usually hidden) that stores the thumbnail images of the pictures when you display them in a folder when in timeline or thumbnails views (thumbnails are like smaller previews of the actual picture).  It wouldn't matter if you copied it along with the other files or not because, if they are moved onto another computer, it would create it's own thumbnail images.  Anyhow, regardless of if the thumbs.db file is moved along with the pictures or not, it would not affect the actual picture files at all.

  5. see THUMBS.db are data base file which stores thumbnail information

mages and videos..u will find them wer ever u have images or videos...

so they will go wer ever u transfer ur images

SO ITS REALLY OK U DONT HAVE TO WORRY
