currently, in aug 2008, they only have the prompts for those applying for fall 2008, not 2009.. i'm wondering when they're going to change it eventually or not at all.. are one of the prompts going to be the same for fall 2009 applicants?

i want to start early on my personal statement.. but what is my prompt? how should i start? is it an intro, body, and conclusion? what do i do when i'm done?

  2. They'll surely use the same prompts, as I have confirmed. And if not, you could always tweak your essays to befit the prompts.

  3. I don't know if they will be same for 2009 but I think we will know sometime in September.  Just keep logging on daily, like me, so that you'll know when they do post them up.

If you are thinking of applying for some UC's also consider a few privates in CA.  Have you signed up for the commonapp?  They have about 20 from CA and a bunch of others throughout the U.S.  I know that there some of the colleges/universities already have some prompts up.

In case that you don't want to log into that website, here's their universal prompt:

-(1) In the space provided below, please elaborate on one of your activities (extracurricular, personal activities, or work experience)(150 words or fewer).

-(2) Please write an essay (250 words minimum) on a topic of your choice or on one of the options listed below. This personal essay helps us to become acquainted with you as a person and student, apart from courses, grades, test scores, and other objective data. It will also demonstrate your ability to organize your thoughts and express yourself.

Please indicate your topic by checking the appropriate button below.

-Evaluate a significant experience, achievement, risk you have taken, or ethical dilemma you have faced and its impact on you.

-Discuss some issue of personal, local, national, or international concern and its importance to you.

-Indicate a person who has had a significant influence on you, and describe that influence.

-Describe a character in fiction, a historical figure, or a creative work (as in art, music, science, etc.) that has had an influence on you, and explain that influence.

-A range of academic interests, personal perspectives, and life experiences adds much to the educational mix. Given your personal background, describe an experience that illustrates what you would bring to the diversity in a college community, or an encounter that demonstrated the importance of diversity to you.

    -Topic of your choice.

Normally I don't help other people in my grade because it increases the competition for me, however, I'm suddenly feeling a bit benevolent.

    The website is www.commonapp.org
