What are your thoughts about global warming?

Here are some things to consider:

1. Does it exist?

2. Is it serious/ will it affect us?

3. Should something/ what should be done about it?

4. Is global warming accurately portrayed by the media? Do you think Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth is using global warming to his own advantage for political influence or as propaganda?

Feel free to post your thoughts and opinions. Please keep the discussion clean. All perspectives are welcome.

  1. well yes

    ofcourse it exists!!!

if it exceedxs its limit it will b really very dangerous as all the ice caps will melt!!!

the temperatures of the world will change and incerase!

climatin change will be there and will b a threat for all living creatures!!!!!!!

    lots more................

  2. Real, mostly caused by us.  The data is overwhelming.

"I wasn’t convinced by a person or any interest group—it was the data that got me. I was utterly convinced of this connection between the burning of fossil fuels and climate change. And I was convinced that if we didn’t do something about this, we would be in deep trouble.”

Vice Admiral Richard H. Truly, USN (Ret.)

    Former NASA Administrator, Shuttle Astronaut

Here are two summaries of the mountain of peer reviewed data that convinced Admiral Truly and the vast majority of the scientific community, short and long.

    summarized at:

If we do nothing it will be very serious:

So something should be done about it.  Here's a good plan:

The media is all over the map, some good, some bad.  Just like most anything else.  Gore's movie is OK, but there's better science available.  To think he's doing this for political reasons (or money) is ridiculous.

  3. I think there is a natural cycle the earth goes through that people (alarmists) are calling global warming.

The idea that some think we can actually stop a natural cycle as big and regular as this kind of earth cycle is kind of pompous, and irrational, not to mention dangerous.

There is a multi-million dollar industry that has grown around the myth that we can actually stop a force of nature.

    Al Gore is an opportunist.

  4. Answer to 1st question:

There are scientists on both sides that have different opinions. They all generally agree that the earth is definitely warming now. They just strongly disagree on who and/or what is causing it. There is compelling evidence on both sides.

Global warming is the prediction from a large number of Scientists that Humans are causing the earths climate and GHG's to climb beyond what would occur naturally. They generally contend that it will lead to the Destruction of our Planet from AGW(Anthropogenic Global Warming).

There is also a large number of Scientists that predict that the earth is simply in a warming cycle and that we humans have a small effect (if any) on the climate changes. They generally do not refer to this warming as Global Warming.

    Even though technically it is.

They do not claim the doom & gloom but both sides agree we MUST recycle when possible and conserve our natural resources.

The term global warming is more of a political term and is misleading. For the most part everyone agrees that we are warming up gradually the big and I mean big question is why and what and/or who is causing it?

There may be evidence that the earth is warming, but no real scientific fact to support why it is.

Most articles from both sides are just articles that base little on fact and more on short term evidence.

I think for the most part, the discussion on (Global Warming) is much like our modern day court system. Both sides just try to prove their side with hundred of websites all claiming to disprove the other, or no real proof. Both sides have extreme activists. Money and politics are major players, and the right thing or the moral thing to do is not high on the priorities list.

The only difference from our court system is that the global warming issue has no short term answer that would be equivalent to jury and /or Judge.. only time holds our future or fate. I would keep in mind that either side may be found to be wrong.

    Answer to 2nd & 3rd Question:

I believe we have a responsibility to conserve energy, preserve our environment and recycle everything that is feasibly possible.

I do not believe that we are causing a doom & gloom warming catastrophe. I do know that we need to prepare now by conserving energy, preserving nature and preparing for the next climate change (whether it continues to heat up or we start a cooling cycle).

    Answer to 4th Question:

NO it is not accurately portrayed. Very Political and propaganda. You can generally tell the AGWers apart they tend to use terms like never, always, refuse, destroy and  disaster. The use of these terms show a very closed minded person.

We try our best not to label people as idiots. Most AGW'ers don't like being called names. but sometimes a duck is a duck.

  5. Firstly, I think it exists, after studies done, it has been seen that the warming of the earth has happened very quickly compared to how it was rising quite slowly before the world became very industrialized.

Second, yes I believe that it will affect us, this is what makes it a quite important issue. The melting of the ice caps will make the sea levels rise in the whole world, flooding the lower coastal areas. Also, plants and animals (especially sensitive ones, like fish) may not all be able to all handle this change in

the climate and then environment. This may completely change the world.

Fortunately though things can be done. Since most of the global warming is caused by greenhouse gas emissions like carbon dioxide, reducing energy use is helping slow down the  global warming. Electricity is also sometimes made by burning fossil fuels, so avoid wasting that as well as reducing your car use (if you have one). The truth is that on your own, there isn't much of a change, but you can include all your friends, include as many people as you can into reducing energy use. For example, ride your bike to nearby places or things like that.

Global warming I think is quite accurately portrayed in the media. I don't think that Al Gore is using this for political influence.

    These are my thoughts

  6. Unlike the rest of the world I believe that global warming is caused by heat and not greenhouse gases. If you do a heat balance on the biosphere, the incoming and outgoing heat rates must be close to equal for an equilibrium condition to exist, for global warming the incoming rate must be greater than the outgoing rate. Heat disapation is through radiation, conduction, convection, etc. The primary source of incoming heat energy is the sun with significant contributions from terrestial sources. Since nuclear energy releases stored potential energy from the earth, is contributes a little bit to global warming. As more energy is released by burning trees on a global scale this is the primary cause of global warming. This has the compounding effect of destroying a heat sink for incoming solar radiation. Trees convert solar energy into their life mass. About 0.2% of the world is being deforested each year and this is the major cause of global warming. As it turns out, the burning of wood creates greenhouse gases corresponding to the heat that is producted, therefore, it is only incidental that the concentration of greenhouse gases is proportional to global warming.

  7. 1) Yes, look at the melting ice caps and glaciers

    2) Yes it is and yes it will

    3) Yes we should do something about it.  The number one thing we can do to reduce our impact on this is to consume less energy.  If every person in the world would turn off the lights in rooms they aren't using, unplug appliances they aren't using (how many people do you know who leave they're cell phone charger plugged in even when they're not charging? its still drawing power!!), stop using AC, drive smaller cars, carry their own bags to the grocery store, buy locally grown food products, and stop supporting wasteful businesses, this problem would no longer be our fault.

    4) The issue is portrayed both accurately and inaccurately by the media.  Al Gore is a grade A stooge who thinks he created the internet, and if anything is ever really done about global warming, he'll probably try to take credit for that too.

Dude has a seriously inflated ego.

  8. it doesnt exist.

any warming or cooling of the earth's climate is purely natural. we've had ice ages before, and that was when man wasnt around. its called the carbon cycle..look it up

  9. I think that global warming is a real issue that should be a concern to us all now and is only going to get worse, rapidly. You can also call it climate change which may help you to understand what the effect will be. Many people seem to look out of their window and use what ever is happening outside as a guide to what the planet is doing. It is called GLOBAL warming because it is a global event and as such it is not possible to look outside of one persons house and make a global observation.

However, I think that people are also getting confused by the expanding population, the planets inability to support us, the wiping out of the fish stock, the extinction of flora and fauna, coral bleaching, expanding desert, arctic ice melting, third world debt, poverty and starvation, illeagal logging, multi drug resistant TB, and all the other issues facing humanity and then pushing them all together and labeling it as "global warming". Some of these issues are a result of man made climate change and some are the result of 6.6 BILLION people destroying the environment.

And then they see the problem as to big to start fixing, so, therefore there is no point to do anything about it as no one else is, etc. However all these issues can be broken down and we ,collectively, could go someway to solving them. However, unfortunately, we are human and historically, when ever there has been a time to band together for the good of all, we have choose to bomb, kill, invade, and attack and take what ever we wanted from are neighbors. *Sigh*.

The claim that much of Gore's evidence has "now been discredited" is itself an untruth. In a work of such breadth and scope as An Inconvenient Truth, the occasional inaccuracy, such as when Gore states that the number of polar bears is diminishing when infact the numbers were not declining (2006 remember), does not therefore mean that the ice is not melting and in no way disqualifies An Inconvenient Truth as an accurate assessment of global warming due to human activity.

No single work has gone so far to educate so many.

  10. It's a bunch of hoo-haw to me. I like the warm weather.

  11. I strongly belive that global warming is here.yes it is serious.Ive seen the media there such gossip mongars these days it some times hard to to belive there credibilty.I saw al gores movie.quite scary in fact.then in stead of trying to save the world all at once wich of course me just one person cant do over night .as lame as this sounds I decided I could start with me I am more aware of my place in this world .I try to recycle, save energy, remind my friends and family about global warming.I m not the best just yet but i defintly try to give our planet respect that is long over due. I hope we can stop golbal warming even if it is one person at a time.just hope we all decide to be that one person real soon.other wise it maybe to late for us and our planet.

  12. 1.  Yes, scientists agree it exists.  Some politicians don't, for economic reasons.

    2.  Yes, it will effect us.  The exact extent is debatable, but it will be serious.

    3.  Yes, it should be addressed as soon as possible.  The best approaches are developing cleaner sources of energy.

    4.  An Inconvenient Truth generally had the right idea, but some of the technical details were either outdated or dramatized.  But the basic premise is correct.

  13. global warming does exist because we see with the weather changes, the hurricanes and twisters, etc. It is serious if we dont act fast enough or we will have millions and millions of refugees in the near future. What should be done is to take some actions of preventing global warming such as using less napkins for an example. Just try to use 1 less napkin a day for this day forth and u will reduce waste by a extreme margin. Al gore is done politics and he is doing it for a personal sense. The inconvenient truth is not far from the truth but their are extremes on the movie which i disagree.
