According to wikipedia, Zapatistas are Mexican Revolutionaries, originally founded under the helm of Emiliano Zapata in the 1910 Mexican Revolutionary War.  Zapata was overthrown in 1911 and assassinated in 1919 effectively ending the movement, but his ideology remain and in 1994 a new group (which had been underground for sometime) emerged calling themselves Zapatista's and attacked the Mexican government, but were easily outmatched by the government military.  Although they remain armed they have not returned to violence, rather they seek support predominantly over the internet.
