What are a few of the best places to start a hedge fund?

maybe try working at one, or at least learning something about the industry before you try to open one.

The Cayman Islands is the best place to register a hedge fund.  It probably doesnt matter where your office is and you will probably only need one.. Many of them are in Connecticut  Your investors are going to be high net worth and be scattered all over anyway.  But it probably would be an advantage to locate in a large city to be convenient to the services you need to operate the fund.  Hedge funds are usually set up as limited partnerships with about 100 investors in each partnership.
