What are a good materials in making a Scale Model of a house? ?

  1. For a scale this small, you are going to have to use materials where the thickness of the material is in scale with the thickness of walls.  A 1:50 scale means 1/16" is equivalent to 4.125" so tagboard that thick will make a scale wall in a residence and you will have to decide if you are going to do doors (about 2") in 1/32" material.  Cardboard also has the nice feature that if you score, but do not cut through the corners from the outside, you can fold at the corners, making gluing up a room much easier than if you are trying to hold pieces in place and glue them.  Blue masking tape, that peels off, is also nice for temporary holding.


  2. Foam board is very sturdy and easy to cut.  It also holds its form very well, so no need for extra fortification.  

    When I was in second grade we went to an archetectural office and watched them make scale houses and that is what they used.
