Older computers contained lead, and CRT monitors use leaded glass.  This toxic substance has been eliminated in newer computers (by using lead-free solder), and CRTs are now obsoleted by LCD screens.

The production of computer chips produces lots of poisonous chemicals as by-products. As long as these materials are carefully handled, this should not become a big problem, but it must be considered in the big picture.

Like any tech product, computers become obsolete quickly and old ones end up in landfills.  Recycling of old computers (and every product) should be a requirement for companies making new ones, and this should encourage the use of as much recyclable material and design as is practical.

These are just a few of the issues associated with tech products.  You might also consider how people become less healthy as they spend more and more time just sitting in front of computer screens.
