What are some affordable (under $30, preferably under $10) things to do on a visit to Victoria, BC in Canada? I'm going with a friend in June for one or two days.

  1. downtown victoria is nice... go to the museums, inner habour, beacon hill park

  2. Royal BC Museum and the inner harbour. $14 gets you an all day admission to the museum and all the exhibits. Another 15 bucks gets you into the IMAX theater. Lots to see for free at the inner harbour, the lights on the BC Legislature building, street performers, artists, etc. Beacon Hill Park, childrens zoo, fantastic flower gardens. Heritage houses everywhere, some with guided tours for a small fee (Emily Carr's house, for instance)

  3. There are 2 very nice parks in Esquimalt. They are free to walk around in and they are right on the ocean. The first is Macauley Point. There are some interesting military artifacts within this park. Also, just a little bit west of Macauley Point is Saxe Point Park. There are some beautiful gardens in this park.

Another nice park that you can walk around for free is Gorge Park. Walk along the Gorge waterway and enjoy the water and the flowers. This is located in Saanich and only a 5 minute drive from Macauley Point and Saxe Point.

  4. Go to the bug zoo downtown.

  5. In the downtown core there is beacon hill park with a petting zoo (admission by donation), a wax museum, the maritime museum, you can walk in the parliament buildings and the empress hotel for free as well. There is a bug zoo downtown, and you can take a water taxi around the harbor for different view points. My advice would be to skip the museums etc and find some real victoria beauty. Head down to cadboro bay and go to gyro park, or telegraph bay. Go up to Mt Doug of Tolmie and admire the views, and save that money to get a home brewed pint at one of the local breweries.

  6. When I worked there they had a Grey Line tour around town, it is a small but good size city, is very walkable, if you want a day trip, get on the ferry acrossed the Straits of Juan De Fueca to Port Angeles in Washington State, it was around $25 return, it is a short trip and is a quiant liitle town, there is Buchart Gardens and now evrything is in bloom, not expensive and there is a bus from bhind the Empress Hotel were the Grey Line used to have its office, I worked at the hotel in the 1980's and walked by there operations everyday.

  7. go to hellobc and tourismvictoria    They have free guides to mail  Check out BC Ferries day trips to the Gulf Islands
