  1. Cleaning their own rooms, picking up their own messes, maybe the 8 year old can start putting away its own clothes and helping wash dishes, feeding pets perhaps..

  2. help wipe of table and counter tops, vacuum, make there beds (it just wont be perfect), pick up toys, and dust. also something that might help keep them motivated is to get a poster board or something and divided it up ;one side for the 5 yrd old the other for the 8 yrd old and each time they do a chore they get to put a sticker on there side and who ever at the end of the week gets the most stickers gets a reward! but of course they dont forget to have them show you what the cleaned!!

  3. It might seem silly, but i have mine take the clothes from the washer to the dryer, then from the dryer to the designated spot we fold clothes. I also have them empty the dishwasher, and use the vacuum sucker tube to get the corners and edges i miss when vacuuming. They also have the job of folding towels, putting their own clothes away, and dusting. Good luck!

  4. Picking up their toys and putting in the box after play time is up. Them helping to make the bed w/ your assistance. The little things that are not that complicated but will encourage the sense of responsibility and pride within them for working / performing a task. Of course you have to praise them and encourage them for a job well done or redirect them when they don't get it right the first time.

  5. When I was eight I helped do the following: Clean my room, make my bed, dust, wash dishes (dry and put them away), and ran the vacuum cleaner. As for your five year old they can clean their room, make the bed, help set the table, and any other light household work. They both can help pull weeds and rake outside when yard work needs done. Hope this helps you!
