  1. Pongo is a genus of the family Pongidae  to which orangutans belongs to.

    Its Synonyms are Pongo & genus Pongo. No other animal is known as pongo   but  this word has been used  in various places to characterise some thing very special..Following are some examples-

    As places:  Pongo , canyon or narrow gorge in the Upper Amazon

    The Pongo River, several rivers or estuaries in Africa.

    As real persons:  Tom 'Pongo' Waring (1906–1980), English footballer
