  1. In all honesty, I'm sure there's good retirement benefits, but for now, my dad has not payed for coffee in 11 years at our 7-11 and we never have to wait in line at the DMV.

  2. Each department is different, so check with the department you are interested in.  Here are some of the benefits provided by my department.

In my department the agency pays for the officers health care, but not the family of the officer.

As to the pension, first you put in 30 years of service, then you can retire with 70 percent of your pay. Other retirement options available to me are deferred compensation plans or IRAs.

As to continuing education, you get more pay for a degree, if you try to earn your degree while working here you get the tuition reimbursed for an "A", 3/4 reimbursement for a "B", half reimbursement for a "C".

Oops, I forgot one. If I get killed in the line of duty, the agency gives my spouse $50,000. Of course, the Backstoppers Organization comes by. This is a non-profit organization designed to help the families of officers killed in the line of duty. But would my spouse want the money, or me?

In other words, cops don't become cops because of the benefits. It is a calling.  But if you have the calling and would like to know about pay and benefits, contact the department you are interested in working for.

  3. Beat, torture, taser and pepper spray people. Primarily because they were the ugly kids that got bullied as kids so this is how they retaliate.

...until a good lawyer comes and BRINGS JUSTICE TO THE CORRUPT COPS!

  4. Benefits:

Cops get to beat people up and to torture them with mechanical and electrical devices. Cops get to be immune from tickets - even for drunk driving. Cops are pretty much immune from being prosecuted for domestic violence. Cops get to intimidate anyone who doesn't do what they want. Cops get free doughnuts and coffee - and often other stuff.

Cops get all the best dope by stealing it from the dealers or evidence locker. Cops get lots of extra cash and other things like handguns - by stealing it from "criminals" (anyone they stop, frisk, intimidate). Cops get to use official government computers to "investigate" (snoop) on people they know. Cops get to meet chicks by pulling them over. Cops may trade "personal favors" in exchange for not writing tickets to chicks. Cops get to see all kinds of cool, gory, personal, intimate, private, prurient, salacious things from other people's private lives - often by busting into the middle of their houses on the thinnest pretexts. Cops get to get even with people they don't like by framing them for crimes. Cops get to get even with whole groups, classes, or races of people by kicking their a$$ or framing them for crimes or just putting them into "intelligence" databases as "bad people".

Cops get to get injured, be unhealthy, and usually have heart attacks before they can collect their pensions. Cops get to have short, and usually-failed marriages. Cops get to have lots of divorces. Cops get to have substance-abuse problems, from alcohol to tobacco to pills to harder stuff. Cops get to be separated from society so that they can't have any friends other than the other cops they know. Cops get to associate with - all day, every day - the scum of the earth, from rapists to robbers to drug pushers to lawyers and other officials on the take - oh, yea, and the dozens of other substance-addicted, wife-beating, perjuring, bullying, drunken, sneaking, stealing cops they know. Cops get to be dirty in a way that plumbers never will because the plumber's filth washes off when they come home and take a shower - all while making less income than a good plumber.

Those are the "average" cops. The other cops are the ones who start out thinking their motivation is about "helping people" - which translates to: "they have a pathological need to save someone" - which usually points-out a chlidhood history of having been bullied. And, they think, in the deep recesses of their psychology that "helping people" will wash away the pain of those experiences. In reality, what happens is they BECOME the bully - and in spades - thereby completing the "cycle of abuse".

People who want to be cops should generally be disqualified based on that alone. Mostly, they are either bullies or bullied-who-will-become-bullies - either one, given the opportunity to live-out their personal pathologies in public, with the power of the state and a fast car and a gun and being unaccountable for their actions.

The "benefit" of that kind of response to either wanting to be a bully or to having been bullied - is that they get to avoid EVER resolving the personal issue - by "passing the buck" of their emotional suffering on to the public and thus multiplying the problem into society. They get to avoid EVER being answerable for this - unless you count the broken marriages, alcoholism, smoking, no friends, and the early heart attack.

My advice to anyone who "wants to be a cop" is to seek some help to resolve the personal pathology that would lead one toward such a patently self-destructive path. Then, to go to actual college and to pursue an actual career that actually creates or builds something in the world. Police do not create or build ANYTHING - They only spend tax dollars justifying their existence while causing harm to innumerable people and socity as a whole.

Build something in the world with your life, Dude.
