  1. There are over 100 recognised breeds of cat and so it would be a long job to name them all. Most are colour variants of a particular physical type. For example The British Short-hair followed by it's colour or markings. The (Colour) Point Siamese.

There isn't any such thing as a hybrid 'breed' of dog or cat! A Hybrid is the result of mating two related species, not two different breeds of the same animal.

A Wolf X Dog or a Domestic cat X Scottish Wild Cat are examples of Hybrids. A cross between a Poodle and Labrador or a Siamese and Persian isn't a Hybrid.

I think people are using the term Hybrid just to make people think they are getting something new and different but in fact all you are getting is a cross breed. It takes several animal generations of breeding to produce a new breed with set characteristics which is why all these crosses with names like Morkies or Labradoodles don't look alike.

Some breeds I do know are

Cornish Rex, Devon Rex, Siamese, Burmese, Persian, Sphinx, Manx, British Short Hair, Russian Blue and Maine Coone.

  4. Cat Fanciers of America is like the AKC, but for cats

  5. FYI what people call "hybrid" dogs are NOT breeds nor are they even hybrids. All breeds of dogs are dogs.  A hybrid would only be if you were mixing another animal with a dog - like a wolf hybrid.  Labadoodles, Maltipoos, etc are NOT breeds. They are MUTTS.  Reputable breeders do not cross breed dogs for profit - backyard breeders do.  Please don't support the breeding of mutts for profit with so many dogs - some even purebred - euthanized at shelters by the millions every year because there's not enough homes for them.

TICA (The International Cat Association) recognizes about 60 breeds.  I'm not going to list them when you can just click the link - http://www.tica.org/english/cats/breeds....

FYI Tabby and Calico are not breeds.  Tabby is a coat pattern and Calico (or Tortie as it's called if you show your cat) is a coat colour.
