  1. Seeing as it's pattented, I couldn't find a whole lot of info about it's composition.  See sites below.

    Zipper storage bags, were patented by Robert W. Vergobbi on May 18, 1954. In the same year, Minigrip licensed them as pencil bags. Not until 1968 did Dow Chemical Company (already known for Styrofoam and Saran Wrap) begin marketing for them. Design alterations have allowed for applications beyond household food storage. The bags are known more commonly under the genericized trademark Ziploc.


  2. Plastic bags are made from hydrocarbons obtained from petroleum. The exact composition of the plastic of Ziploc is not available. but it contains hydrogen and carbon   Plastics vary in their exact composition depending on the requirements you have for the plastic to do.. I have just received a plastic bag that is made out of corn, so the hydrocarbons can be obtained from plant oil sources.
