What are all the methods in which Iceland Spar can be mined?

I'm working on a project in school and if I am to finish it, I kinda need to know how to mine Iceland Spar. I looked all over the web, but none of the sites are any good. please help! and please, include the link if you can.....=(

Iceland spar from Iceland (Helgustadir) occurs in pockets of basalt (hardened lava). It was quarried, but the description of the quarry indicates that a cave was created.The working face of the quarry was described as a cavity in the rock about 12 by 5 yards, and about 10 feet high.
