  1. It is not possible to list all laboratory equipment - there is just too much.

Here is a list of some equipment I have used in my research, and what I have used them for:

    - water bath (for heating cell growth media and buffers)

    - CO2 incubator (for growing mammalian cells in)

    - pipettor (for measuring amounts of liquid)

    - biological safety cabinet (for maintaining sterility while handing cells and media)

    - centrifuge (for precipitating cells out of suspension)

    - dounce homogeniser (for lysing cells and extracting their contents)

    - tissue homogeniser (for preparing a colloidal suspension of polymer in solvent, in water)

    - magnetic stirrer (for stirring liquids)

    - fume hood (for safe handling of toxic or volatile substances)

    - inverted microscope (for observing cells in culture)

    - rotary cell culture system (for culturing cells in suspension)

    - fluorescent microscope (for observing stained cells and tissue sections)

    - microtome (for cutting tissue sections)

    - scanning electron microscope (for observing the structure of prepared microparticles)

    - fluorescence-activated cell counter (for determining the labelling efficiency of cells with fluorescent probe molecules)

    - transmission electron microscope (for observing the fine structure of protein fibres)

    - peptide sysnthesiser (... for synthesising oligopeptides)

    - high-pressure liquid chromatograph (for purifying synthesised peptides)

    - mass spectrometer (for determining the molecular weight of purified peptides)

    - circular dichroism spetropolarimeter (for assaying the folded structure of peptides)

    - fluorimeter (for checking the structure of peptides)

    - Fourier-transform infra-red spectrometer (for checking the structure of peptides)

    ... the list goes on..
